Welcome to our class. In Foundation Stage 2 pupils follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and work towards Early Learning Goals in 7 areas; 3 prime areas, Personal, Social Emotional development, Physical development and Communication and Language and 4 Specific areas, Mathematics, Literacy, Understanding the World and Expressive arts and design. In addition to adult led activities and focus teaching pupils learn through play and accessing provision and challenging activities developed to promote learning and progress towards the Early Learning goals.
Growth Topic - The making of the Enormous Turnip
Michael Rosen class have enjoyed their Frozen Topic over the last half term. We explored the properties of ice and snow and learned that snowflakes have six sides and are all unique. The pupils learned the stories, "We're going on a Bear Hunt," by Michael Rosen, which included a snowstorm setting and "Lost and Found," by Oliver Jeffers, about a boy and his penguin who return to the South Pole. We also looked at non-fiction texts about Penguins. These texts inspired us to write labels and captions, sequence the events in stories and write simple sentences about characters and settings.

Mathematics Spring 2
In maths we have been using number rods and number lines to add single digit numbers.
World Maths Day Challenges
In maths we have been learning about money and recognising coins. We have also been adding two coin values together to pay for items in our Iceland shop and calculating the correct change. We learned to say one more and one less than a given number and halving and doubling numbers to 10. Pupils practised ordering numbers to 20 and adding and subtracting by counting on and back. In addition we have been using positional language and learning the names and properties of 2D shapes.
British Science Week
We are excited to announce that the new resources have arrived and our new sandpit opens on Monday 26th February. Watch this space for photographs of lots of new outdoor learning and physical development.
We were enjoying digging in our new sandpit before the snow came.
We are really excited about some new equipment in our outdoor area. We have a new story telling garden where we can listen to stories and tell stories to our friends. There is also a new sandpit which will promote physical development through digging on a large scale. It is now full of sand and new resources have been ordered and this will open next half term.
Fun in the snow!
Our next topic is all about growth. We will be growing beanstalks and grass heads and learning the stories "The Enormous Turnip" and "Jack and the Beanstalk". In Expressive Arts and Design we will be making our own Enormous turnip using wire and mod roc and acting out the story for our class assembly.
We have been planting seeds.
