The school is a Community Primary School for boys and girls aged 3-11. The standard admisssion number is 26 for nursery sessions and 40 for each other year group in mainstream school. Applications for admission to the school should be made to the Local Education Authority (LA).
For the nursery the LA still operates a three point entry system , this means that children enter nursery in the term after they reach their third birthday in chronological order and entry is in September, January and March/April. Application forms for nursery are accepted from when a child reaches the age of 2 years and these are available at the school office.
In mainstream school a two point entry system operates, this means that children who are 5 between 1 September and 31 December of any year will be admitted in September. Children who are 5 between 1 January and 31 August will be admitted in January. Visits are organised for the children to ease transition from home, playgroup or nursery to mainstream school.
Parents are welcome to make an appointment to visit school prior to making an application.
It is necessary to apply for mainstream school in the November prior to the year of entry. This applies to
children who will be starting in the reception class in September or January of the next school year.
Application forms for admission to school can be found in the Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council Handbook
which is distributed from school or local pre-school settings.

The admission arrangements are the same as for the primary sector. Local secondary schools distribute their own prospectus via our year 6 children, arrange for staff to visit Mapplewell, and hold open evenings for prospective parents.
