School History

Mapplewell Primary School is a purpose build co-educational Community Primary School, opened in September 1999 and maintained by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council.
We value all our pupils equally, but we also value their right to be different and excel in different ways.

We expect our pupils to work hard, to enjoy school life and to keep the school rules and code of behaviour. We for our part, will work hard for them by setting a good example, being a caring and listening staff and teaching them to the best of our ability. Governor’s on their part, will ensure resources are available and used efficiently and effectively.

At present there are 250 children on roll (September 2007) rising to approximately 274+ in 2008 in nursery and 9 mainstream classes. All classes are mixed ability and the placement of a child in any one class is at the discretion of the headteacher.
