Welcome to Mapplewell Primary School. School is open to Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 pupil from 1 June 2020

Mapplewell Primary School.

We provide excellence in learning; encourage a growth mindset
in all pupils and promote independence and motivation to succeed.

The School Day

Pupils from Reception to Year 6 should arrive at school ready for the doors to open at 8:45am. Pupils must be supervised by a parent/carer until the doors are opened as a member of school staff is not out on the playground at this time.  Pupils and other children should not play on any school equipment before school opens, our parents/carers support is greatly appreciated with this matter. We expect pupils to arrive at school in good time; being late is upsetting for pupils and disrupts the learning of the whole class. If you are late bringing your child to school you must report to the main office. As a school we monitor lates as well as attendance.

Children should be collected at the end of the school day by an adult known to staff. No other adult will be granted access unless you inform the school office in advance. If you would like your child to walk to and from school by themselves a permission form must be completed at the school office. Actions will be taken against parents/carers who are regularly late collecting their children.

Pupils are encouraged to drink throughout the day and may bring a water bottle to school, however to maintain a healthy diet the schools policy is water only and no soft drinks are allowed. Healthy snacks are encouraged and fruit is available for pupils at break time; fruit is provided by the government for Early Years and Key Stage 1 pupils however if your child is in Key Stage 2 a payment is required. Please see the office staff for further information about this.

Extra Curricular Activities

Extra curricular activities are offered at times throughout the different school terms. Letters are sent home at the end of each half term, regarding the type of after school activities that will be taking place during the following half term. Places are allocated on a first come first served basis and places are limited. Therefore please ensure permission forms are returned to school as soon as possible. For further information on our after school activities please visit our 'Letters' section of the website or visit the main reception.

We also run a breakfast club each morning from 8:00am where our pupils can come along and have breakfast with their friends then participate in a number of different activities until it is time to go to their classes for registration. There is a charge of £3.00 per day which can be paid at main reception. To find out more about our breakfast club please visit the 'School and Breakfast Club' page or visit the main reception.

Special Assemblies

At the beginning of every day pupils participate in a number of different assemblies throughout the school week. We also have a couple of special assemblies that take place which are detailed below.

Celebration Assembly: Every Friday in school we have a celebration assembly for each Key Stage. This assembly helps us to celebrate the achievements of some of our pupils from that week. The pupils receive a Celebration Certificate and also earn the chance to have some celebration time with our headteacher, Mrs Padfield, towards the end of the day on that Friday.

Sports Assembly: At the end of each month we also have a Sporting Achievements Assembly. Children are able to bring in and share any certificates, medals, trophies etc that they have achieved during that month for a sporting achievement outside school. We also give out trophies for one person in each class who has tried exceptionally hard during PE lessons and sporting activities within school for that month.

Class Assembly: During the school year each class will perform a Class Assembly where parents and carers are invited to watch (letters are usually sent out about these as well as information about them on our monthly newsletters). During these assemblies the pupils show a snippet of some of the things they have been learning about within their class. It is a lovely opportunity for all of our parents and carers to see some of the fantastic learning that is taking place in our school. Our pupils always enjoy putting these assemblies together with their class teachers.
